Chapter 8.
Carly Bishop, one of the 'beautiful girls' at St Martha's, the ones who have the most modern hairstyles. She is a part-time model and was even in Hot Pants once. Chapter 8, tells a story of bonding with Michael.
Josie did get in trouble because she broke Carly's precious nose with her Science book. So, she took a bet and called Michael, the one person who she wanted to least call. Though, that call might have just saved her life and her relationship with Michael.

Chapter 3-4
"Rituals. They come and go, but the ritual of having to see my grandmother every afternoon drives me absolutely insane."
Chapter 3 is about Josie's chance encounter with her father. It also involves a little fight with her Nonna whom she argues frequently. Josie's image of her father was him being tall, good looking and somewhat looking like a weakling. But instead he wasn't tall, nor good looking nor looking like a weakling. Her first impression of him was that she looked like him and that he had a sense of strength about him. As soon as Josie said "'My mother had me young.'" His face fell and went pale. He looked like he was in complete shock.
Josephine vows to run for her life to be free and think for herself. To get away from all the ridiculous rules and regulations she has to follow, and someday escape from her family.

In chapter 4, discoveries are made about John Barton and his view of life.
"'I'll let you in on a secret. Sometimes I think that this life is shit. I mean, don't you find it pathetic?'" Josie unfolds a new side of Barton even though she finds it a bit freaky.
Chapter 4 starts off with a mini intro about how it's the time of the year for debating. The only time when Josie and Poison Ivy agree on the same thing. This time it's St Martha's against St Anthony's at Josie's school. When debating's finally over and done with, Josie and Barton hang out and start to talk about their lives. This is an important chapter to read because you find more personal info about the character and you get to know them a bit better.
At the end of the chapter we find out Josie's part time job at Mc Donald's and how exactly she'll be going to spend it. "Sportsgirl, Country Road and Espirit, here we come."

Chapter 2
In chapter 2, Josie describes her friends and gives a brief summary about each of them.
Anna Selicic is the typical Slavic-looking girl. Long blonde hair and blue eyes with that healthy red-cheek look. Described as "the most nervous person I have ever known." She is the first they will protect whether being squashed in a concert or terrorised by the students of Cook High.
Then we have Seraphina. The most brazen person Josie has ever met. She can look at a person and lie her heart out. She can bitch about a person for hours and then turn around and crawl to them. She has black roots and blonde hair. Skinny yet voluptuous and tends to dress in whatever the latest rock or pop star is wearing.
Finally there's Lee Taylor "whose main objective in life is to hang out with wax-heads down at the southern beaches and who thinks it's cool to come to school with a hangover." Her father is an alcoholic and once came to pick her up from a birthday party, blind drunk.
This chapter is also very important because it's when she meets Jacob Coote on 'Have a Say Day'. Josie was impressed with his speech. By the end of this chapter, Josie talks about how she wishes she was in Poison Ivy's world and how she wanted to belong.
"The world of sleek haircuts and upper-class privileges. People who know famous people and lead educated lives. A world where I can be accepted."

Chapter 1
Josie is your average teen. She has friends, relatives, enemies and an education! But what is missing in her life?.. Who would of imagined she lived without a father her whole life.
In these chapters, we discover Josie's relationships, likes and dislikes.
Chapter 1 is introduced with Josie causing a simple ruckus in religion class. You think she is being attentive at first but gets a little funny when you find out she's reading a 'Hot Pants' magazine. Josie introduces us with her life and surroundings. She talks about her mother and their love hate relationship. How Christina (Josie's mum) is strict with her and how her mother hates Nonna butting in. She dislikes going to Nonna's every afternoon and talks about how it's World War Three or fights galore when the three of them come together!
Josie see's herself at a disadvantage at school because she had gotten accepted by St Martha's with a scholarship. Why? St Martha's is a school for teenagers who have rich grandparents or parents. She wanted to go to the inner west where all her other friends had gone because they could relate. "They knew what it meant to have a grandmother dressed in black for forty years." They even looked like Josie with "Dark hair, dark eyes" and "olive skin."
At the end of the chapter, we make an unexpected discovery about Josie's father. His name is Michael Andretti, and he is the groom's cousin at the Fiorentino wedding that her grandmother had attended.
"'What does he look like?' I asked later, trying to act uninterested."
... "'He looks like a male Josephine Alibrandi.'"
