"Rituals. They come and go, but the ritual of having to see my grandmother every afternoon drives me absolutely insane."
Chapter 3 is about Josie's chance encounter with her father. It also involves a little fight with her Nonna whom she argues frequently. Josie's image of her father was him being tall, good looking and somewhat looking like a weakling. But instead he wasn't tall, nor good looking nor looking like a weakling. Her first impression of him was that she looked like him and that he had a sense of strength about him. As soon as Josie said "'My mother had me young.'" His face fell and went pale. He looked like he was in complete shock.
Josephine vows to run for her life to be free and think for herself. To get away from all the ridiculous rules and regulations she has to follow, and someday escape from her family.

In chapter 4, discoveries are made about John Barton and his view of life.
"'I'll let you in on a secret. Sometimes I think that this life is shit. I mean, don't you find it pathetic?'" Josie unfolds a new side of Barton even though she finds it a bit freaky.
Chapter 4 starts off with a mini intro about how it's the time of the year for debating. The only time when Josie and Poison Ivy agree on the same thing. This time it's St Martha's against St Anthony's at Josie's school. When debating's finally over and done with, Josie and Barton hang out and start to talk about their lives. This is an important chapter to read because you find more personal info about the character and you get to know them a bit better.
At the end of the chapter we find out Josie's part time job at Mc Donald's and how exactly she'll be going to spend it. "Sportsgirl, Country Road and Espirit, here we come."
